Which Breed to choose Good with kids, small,calmetc2007-11-25 2:55:08

we are looking for a dog. I need something small, like the size of a cat, calm, friendly, great with small kids (2 and 5) this would be an inside dog, so shedding alot would be a problem. I think that leaves me pretty limited. lol

Anyone suggest a breed?

Shih tzu's are wonderful. I've had one for 6 years, a male. We had a female for 4 years. The female's temperment was meeker and milder than the male but the male is good around small children as well. They are very loving, calm and friendly dogs. They are also dedicated and loyal. Best breed I've ever owned!

I would've suggested the Pug, except for the shedding. I've heard Beagle's are really good dogs, although no personal experience with them. But as far as I've seen, Poodles are mean.

You finding all of that in a small dog is nearly impossible. Small dogs are more energetic than larger dogs and tend to be more on guard, especially with small kids. A smaller type dog great with kids and very calm is a Bassett Hound but they are larger than a cat.

Also look at a ShihTzu. They are wonderful little dogs and love to be loved.

Miniature Schnauzer. I grew up with one. They are a GREAT pet if you ask me. They aren't very tall at all. They may be shy for the first few days, but then they'll be pretty content afterwords.
