Revolution, Frontline, or others? Please Help. In need.

Revolution is pretty weak for flea control. If you do not live in a high flea exposure area, it's probably okay.

Both Advantage and Frontline can work very well.

If you bathe more than twice a month (especially with a medicated shampoo) you should use Frontline. It is more waterproof than Advantage.

We have found in our practice, that many of our clients switch every year or so between Advantage and Frontline. As expected, fleas are becoming resistant to some products.

If you decide to use Advantage or Frontline, you will have to use a different product such as Heartgard or Interceptor for heartworm prevention every month.

Revolution doesn't protect against ticks and may not be as effective against fleas as other products, but it does protect against Heartworms.

Frontline and Advantix are really the most commonly used products for fleas and ticks. Some like one better than the other. I think that it depends on the area you are in, but mostly they are the same. Advantix is supposed to help repel mosquitoes so if you live near standing water that may be a better product.

There are a few rules that you have to make sure you abide by for maximum efficacy. Apply directly to the skin and make sure you use it all, down the back or just between the shoulder blades. Make sure that you don't bathe for a few days after you apply or wait a few days after you bathe before you apply it. This ensures that the oils on the skin are their to transport the product throughout the body. Make sure that your shampoo is mild and won't wash off the product when you use it.

These things will help with product success.
