Just check out the winners of agility & herding competitions and u will have a rough idea which breeds are the smartest.

Usually will be border collies.

working class dogs are among the smartest... I know I have always owned shelties and they all have been extremley intelligent.

I think my Lab is pretty smart. We have taught him to go and get us another soda from the frig. If that isn't smart then I don't know what is.

Here is a list by breed, and learning of new commands, but understand that each dog is different and may not be as smart (or not smart)as they are made out to be (For instance afghans are last on the list, but I had a foster who was smart as anything). Also keep in mind the "smartest" dogs, are dogs that need to be stimulated and engaged in activities every day or they may become destructive, their minds need to be excercised, as well as their bodies.
