They are loyal, smart, friendly and good with anyone.

Whenever you feel down they come tumbling over to you with their big eyes. They clown around and goof off until they see you smile, then they'll jump in your lap [and depending on you and your dog] they will go get a ball for you to toss for them, run to the door wanting a walk or lay in your lap sleeping while you watch tv.

they are a really easy dog to manage too. Their short coat means they don't shed. They aren't OVERLY active and don't pounce around and annoy the heck out of you.

They aren't some primpy little dog every one has; for exmaple, Maltese, Bichon Frise, Poodle etc. They are real and not some dorky little rat.

And they aren't over populated so when someone sees one walking down the street they're like "Oh look theres a basset hound! I haven't seen one in a long time!" When someone sees a Golden Retriever, Lab, Shepherd, Collie etc. "Look theres that dog I see a million times." You will stick out.

I could go on and on with how wonderful the Basset Hound is.

In this situation, it doesn't really matter what anyone else's favorite is because their favorite may not fit you.

Go to www.akc.org and do some reading about different breeds. When you find a couple that sound like they will fit well into your lifestyle do some internet research on those breeds. If you want to, pick some of your favorite characteristics that you want in a dog, for instance do you want a dog to go runnning with, or a dog that likes to lounge around most of the day; do you want a protective dog, or a sweetie pie, then repost here with the kind of things you want your dog to do with you and people could better help you choose a dog to fit your needs.
