i used to be involved with training the airport dogs in sydney.
any dog is used that can be train - they usually are unwanted pups or from shelters. they are insterested in temperament and ability to train - not breed.
beagles are used in advertisement to create a recognisable image for customs, but there is not most commonly used breed.
currently, they have -
beagles, german shepards, cattle dogs, kelpies, cocker spaniels, labradors and quite a few mutts.
