Cavalier are cuter but please read up on the inherent medical conditions due to inbreeding. English springers are a more hardier dog and can take abuse from children----what about good old cocker spaniels? I love them, I'm on my 6th and I wouldn't trade her for all the money in the world-- and dogs are like people--you have to pick the right personality for your family.

Cavalier's love people and need lots of companionship to be happy. They do best with older considerate children and some can be reserved with strangers.

Most English Springers are even-tempered, gentle, friendly, and sociable dogs that are great for kids.

So, if you have younger children, seems like the English Springer is the best option!

Hello ..as a rule they are both hyper dogs...they are spaniels..bred to hunt ..etc..that tells ya they can be hyper dogs which can require a bit more attention..no such thing as bad dogs, just bad owners & breeders ;) ..Take Care :)

I've always preferred a Springer. They enjoy playing and make good pets for children. Along with Cockers they are very very intelligent and learn quickly.

Do you have children? Spaniels are cute at first, but tend to be short tempered as they mature, also, if your kids are young, playing with/ pulling the dogs ears will get them bitten, may i suggest you look at a Chihuahua?, they are great with family, i have a 20 month old, smartest dog I've ever shared time with, and I've had a few, rottie, lab, Doberman, Sheppard, oh, also a collie is an excellent family choice, either a sheltie, or full size, good !
