Which is the best dog breed for handicapped children
I want to buy a puppy for my sons. One is 7 and the other one 4, with cerebral palsy. He'll be undergoing surgery in a few months' time and I've been told it would be good for him (and his brother) to have a puppy but I'm at a loss regarding breeds. I need a puppy that will still be small sized when adult, friendly with children and transmitting happiness though not too peppy. Is it asking for too much?!?!
Answers:The best breed for children would be a pug. They are terribly affectionate and loving, eternally loyal and everso gentle. They are classed as a toy breed and their function is a lapdog but they are robust and playful and have an infectious sense of humour. Perfect for playtime and cuddles alike for children.
In Victorian times they were nicknamed 'Nursary Dogs' as they would be sent to sleep in the nursary to keep the children company and alert the household to any intruders.
They would be perfect for your sons and I hope you enjoy your dog, whatever your choice.

Labradoors are really amazing for this. I don't know of any small dogs with an aptitude for this kind of thing.
Rather speak to the people who deal with handicapped children and animals for them, they'd be able to give you the best advice from their experience.
alot of small dogs are peppy...i got a golden from the shelter as a puppy ahe she isnt to big but as a puppy they are so cute and cuddley maybe they'll like it

Labradors and Golden Retrievers are very good natured dogs, hence the reason they use them as guide dogs, good luck!!
I think it's labs as they have a great temperment, i would checkit out!!
Id suggest some kind of terrier(though they sometimes nip), or spaniel (because of size) Labradors and golder retrievers are great but quite big..so if that's an issue for you then they wouldn't be great, as for suggesting a breed i guess all dogs are different.. even if the breed is normally a great dog..doesn't mean that the dog you get will be like that!
