If you adopt an older dog from the shelter, the staff can tell you about the dog's behavior, quirks, etc... with a puppy, its anybody's guess.

Try a Bischon Frise. Lovely little dogs (persuming they are trained correctly!) Dont molt either so suitable for people with allergies. Can be a bit yappy sometimes however but my mums Bischon enjoys playing with my little sister (9) then cuddling up on the sofa with my mum. Very laid back. Good Luck !!

Labradors-had them for 40 years and they are as soft as a pudding.They can be trained to help your children but you have to be patient Very best of Luck

Hi, I tend to agree with the majority of your answers, I know you have said small breed, but you won't go far wrong with a Labrador, I wouldn't go with a Border Collie they are too exuberant, Another large breed would be my all time faves of course, the German Shepherd, they are very patient with disabilities, the one in my pic (sadly not with me now) I used to take regularly to visit a nursing home nearby with young people and children with profound learning disabilities and it used to bring tears to my eye's to see the way he was with them, putting up with all manner of pulling and prodding (I was with him constantly obviously) and noises he wasn't used to. But as you have said, you want a small breed, the only one that comes to mind is the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, they are quite amenable little dogs.
