Which kind of dog is the most well-behaved2007-11-25 2:55:37

I am planning on a pet and decided on a dog but I don't want one which is too messy or dirty? Or does this all depend upon its training? I have no knowledge about dogs. Please Help!

Okay, this one is all opnion. Be prepared to hear loving dog owners give their speeches on which ones are the best.

Well, here's mine.

If you can find one, the Flat Coated Retriever is the best dog on the face of the Earth!

They are sweet, loving and will not run away because they love their family so much.

Of course, training won't hurt. While teaching your dog, you need to be patient. Once they learn one command, leave the seesion at that. Don't confuse them with long lists of commands. Then, when they are rewarded, they won't know what they did right or wrong. Always be positive! Instead of shouting NO when they are bad, praise them when they are good.

One warning about dogs (especially, especially, flat-coats.)

If you're going to be gone a lot, they will not like it. You can't leave flatties alone outside either. They are so affectionate that they will stay near you no matter what.

Also, you need to be active. Dogs want and need exercise. If you don't have the time, I'd suggest not getting a dog. Or if you do, get a little dog like a pekingese that won't need as many walks.

Border collies and really active dogs may not be the best choice for your first time getting a dog. That's why I suggest a flat-coated retriever. They are really nice.
