Which of the following dogs are more people friendly Pit Bull Terrier, Cocker Spaniel, and blood hou2007-11-25 2:55:38

I am just curious as to which is the more people friendly dog by breed reputation.

The pit bull terrier is probably the smartest, sweetest, and eager to please -out of the three choices. I know they have a bad rep, but it really isn't the fault of the breed. Uneducated people who do not know how to treat dogs, much less breed them are creating mutant puppies in their backyards. Then they are selling fighting dogs & family pets from the same litter. THAT is the problem with pit bulls.

IF you can find a pit bull from a reputable breeder, then this breed is an wonderful pet. They are loyal, smart, and truly just want attention and approval from their owners. They are a decent dog around children because they have a high pain tolerance, so they do not react to naive pinching and pestering from children. Honestly, do your research on the breed.

Go visit a good breeder (one who would never breed an aggressive dog, one who does not advertise in the paper, one who keeps their dogs/puppies indoors, one who properly socializes puppies, and one who is going to screen the crap out of you before they would give you one of their beloved dogs)

pitbulls are friendly but can be aloof by nature. blood hounds are also considered an aloof breed its in their nature to be at work sniffing out something and sometimes have little interest in play times etc. cocker spaniels are almost stupidly friendly and very trusting.

i'd say cocker spaniel, but i'm no expert... remember that u did say by REPUTATION, not what they actually are. the pit has the worst rep., not the best like u said. u didnt want to know which had the best personality

Cocker Spaniel. Many pit bulls are mean, everyone knows that but blood hounds can be too! They seem very lazy and tame but they can have a mean streek in them.

Well since each individual dog has a different personality and attitude towards people it's hard to say in general, but I suppose for me it would be cocker spaniel.

I am speaking of experience of 5 years at a veterinary hospital. Pit bull is the only one you mentioned that I have NEVER seen try to bite a staff member. Cockers-YES. They are a great family dog, but they will bite in a minute. In fact, they are one of the most bitey breeds there are. They are definitely on the top 5 list of breeds we see bite the most, along with Chihuahuas and dachshunds, akitas, and chows. This is not an official list, this is a list that the techs I work with made. There are 16 of us and some have 30 years experience in the business.
