What is wrong with having a friendly dog, if you want a dog to be protective, get a German Shepard

The one Golden Retriever I knew was a very friendly dog.

Not as friendly as Labradors and not hyper aggressive as German Shepherds, perhaps because we knew the dog right from the time it was a puppy.

I don't know what you mean by too friendly as far as Golden's go. Yes they are friendly but both of mine bark at strangers when they are on our property. When we are walking they do not acknowledge strangers if I don't allow them too. It's all in the training of these beautiful animals. As with any dog you choose.

i think a collie because i have a golden retriever and he chews up everything and ate 3 babie birds in our back yard and they say that they never loose their puppieness and he is tooooo friendly with the neighbors and other people.Someone broke into our house last month and he didn't care.Not good watch dogs.

I have a Golden Retriever and she is the sweetest dog!! She will come over to you and just nuzzle in to you. She spazzes out when people first arrive, then she calms down and relaxes. They are big people dogs. She also loves other dogs, so if that is your concern, don't worry!! Goldens are great companions to other dogs as well as people. Also, traning them is so easy because they are like vacuums. They will do anything for food.
