Who owns a smooth haired miki2007-11-25 2:55:13

I was wondering because I am considering adopting one.

Questions~

About how much do they cost?

Is there a cost differance between smooth haired mikis and regular mikis?

How rare of a breed is it?

How hard are they to train?

What is their temperment like?

Are they good around kids and other dogs?

What is their health like?

Is there any more important information I should know about the breed?

* I know the dogs and cost will differ from breeder to breeder I just want to get an idea of what the breed is like.

Answers:

I personally don't have a Miki, but my friend has the first International Champion female Miki so I have a bit of knowledge about them.

I personally didn't know there was a smooth coat Miki - they should have coats kinda like a Maltese.. with long hair off of their ears. On further research - the International Miki Registry does not recognize the smooth coats. You can check out their site for their stance on the registry and the rules by which their club members abide by.

As far as the last stats I heard there are about 800 in the US.

They are not hard to train - they have a typical toy dog attitude.. they think that they are bigger than they really are. =)

They are good around kids, but if you get one that is much like the standard, I wouldn't be sure about the kids around the dog. They are small and low to the ground and although they have a hearty structure - one false step or one accidental crush from a smaller child (under 10) could crush them.
