Why are female dogs more expensive2007-11-25 2:55:42

I've noticed that breeders charge anywhere from $200-$800 more for a female dog.

Why is this? Higher demand?

I've thought about it for awhile and I can't really figure out why, exactly. If anyone here knows, please tell me!

I'm not so sure that females are priced higher so much as males are "discounted" due to the fact that they are often harder to place since a majority of puppy buyers seem to have the mistaken idea that females make better pets.

Personally, I prefer the boys, and have sold boys to people who have only ever had girls. They've turned around and told me they'd NEVER have another female after having owned a male!! Females tend to be more independent and less inclined to obey unless they think it's something THEY want to do. The boys tend to be more affectionate and more willing to do your bidding rather than follow their own whims.

I don't price puppies by sex but charge one price, male or female, show quality or pet. My reasoning is that all of my puppies are equally well bred, all are capable of being shown, if not in the breed ring then certainly in other dog sports. I do not discount pet quality, but sell show quality at reasonable prices because I know that if you decide to show one of my pups you will be spending far more down the road than the average pet owner.

The breeder usually do that because they know that female is able to reproduce! Yes,usually true with all breeds!!!

Yorkshire Terriers are far from ''horrible dogs''. I adore them (and I'm not a fan of small breeds!)
