Why are female dogs more expensive
this is why a reputable breeder and all the right testing done will not go outside their kennels to breed with an outside dog.
The potential for the females to produce high quality pups is there so the breeders charge more money.
NOTE: I diagree with K in some things. Not all breeders who do this are back yard breeders or puppy mills. When a Kennels females are getting older or from some reason they wish to improve upon their lines sometimes they have to go outside to get a new female It doesn't happen very often but it does happen. Rest asured that they seek out the best quality dam they can find but they still ahve to go and search for the righ female. You can bet on the fact that the female is not going to be cheep either.
NOTE 2: Perhaps next time you can a bit more specific and not generalize.
Duhhhhhhhh. Females have a uterus and can be bred.
women are high maintnence...
Its true but that probably not why. More like because females can bear puppies. I dont think that should make a difference though because it takes two to tango.
I dont usualy see a price difference with big dogs.
It may be that small dogs are considered more womens dogs, lots of women like girly dogs that they can pamper.. pink collars, dog purses.. ect..
this is because they are the gender that the babies pop out of.
In some breeds that may be true. I know that in Europe females are cheaper then males in some breeds, especially when it comes to a working/competing situation. Usualy breeders have a hard time selling their females and cull entire litters of them. They sell what they keep for $200 just to get rid of them. The funny thing is that I prefer females for most of my working/home protection purposes.
Because when you breed a purebred you get more for the money so to speak! Male dog are limited to making money one female at a time. The lady has 1-6 puppies for you to sell. Yorkies are great dogs. But they will train to just what they want you to be if you let them!!! I grew up with yorkies- Stay away from springer spaniels. I love those dogs but they have been so inbred that they now have genetic short circuit. Some cocker spaniel's too
because they ar producers/give birth
Honestly, I would be careful of breeders that charge more for females. If they're going as pets, there's no reason to charge more. I charge the same for all my pups - male/female, pet/show. I've put the same amount of money, work and love into all of them.
They charge more because they know that if you breed them they will make you a lot of money. For example if you have a female Yorkie, and you want to breed her but dont have a make yorkie to do it with all you have to do is pay a flat rate which a lot of times is less than what a puppy is actually worth to mate with your Yorkie. After your dog has puppies you can sell them for $800 and up a pop. Of course I dont recommend this but that's why they do it. Because if you buy a female for $800 they know you can alway turn around, breed her and make 3 times that.
I think they are higher priced because you can use them for breeding. a Male dog gets a stud fee or first pick of the litter usually. So i think tha tis why they charge more becasue you make money off of them if you want too.
Some breeders will charge more for a female than a male because they see the potential $$ to be made off breeding it, therefore the female is "worth more". These are usually Backyard Breeders, BTW. If you're getting a female on a spay contract, I see no reason why the breeder would be selling her for any more than the males. Kinda bizarre.
