of pits and chows i have had both and they were gr8 dogs people abuse them thats why they have a bad name !

Answers:

People do abuse them, thinking that beating a pit makes them tougher.. Not true..

But it's also not true that it's just a dog that is abused that is out there biting people.

Bad breeding, has a huge role in the pitbull problem.

Inbreeding for specific traits, as well.. so called breeders who don't care where these dogs end up.

Owners who aren't educated, and likely shouldn't have had a dog that is so strong, as they have no experience.

Abuse is only one aspect of the problem. There are several.

Edit : Please quit saying that dog's brains grow and swell larger than their skull and they turn on people. It's not true for chows, Dobermans, or any other breed people keep spreading this stupid rumour about. Unless a dog were to have some disease that caused their brain to swell.. This does just not happen. I can't even believe that civilized people believe this old wives tale, let alone still spreading it as the gospel truth.. It is NOT true that brains swell causing a dog to ' turn on people '

I love chows =D Not so fond of pits becuase I've heard alot of stories but it's really just down to their personalities and how their owners teach them =)

Chows are awesome dogs. They're so sweet and friendly I honestly can't see how people would abuse them. Pits some are sweet, but other are trained to be vicious. I think more so then most because of how they look. Poor dogs.

First it all depends on how people raise their animals. Second, the reason most people are afraid of chows are because as chows get older their brain continues to grow yet their skull doesn't. Therefore that causes problems makes them mean, etc. Pits are just given a bad name because many people use them as fight dogs. Some pits are the sweetest most gentle dogs you could find, again its all on how you raise them.

I totally understand that dogs behave how there owners teach them but !!! these dogs have a pre-disposition of aggression more than other breeds a bit like German Shepherds are likely to be timid animals unless trained otherwise! Also Westies can be naturally snappy little things again like the rottweillers have naturally guarding instincts which lead to some very dangerous situations! but people who own these know this about them and train them accordingly to be extra friendly - well some owners any way. You seem to know how to train and handle your difficult breeds.

I love pits. I am leary of chows and dobermans. Something about their eyes I just can't read them as well as other breeds. Oh and I had a bichon once that was hard to read. He was mean too.
