Why why why why?? its so sad

my dog just had puppies and she ate on of em.we were feeding that one withthe tube and syringe and i wanted to keep him cause my male dog was a runt too and looked just like this puppy...y do dogs eat their puppies???

Sad though it may be, she was only doing what dogs do. It is the mothers instinct to "take care of" the weakest, sickest, puppies in the litter. She probably knew what you did not, that the puppy wasn't going to make it. Dogs are smart, she was just being a good mother to the surviving pups. I know it is sad and some-what disturbing, but try not to attach human emotion to instinctual, animal behaviour.

Survival instinct. One of those survival of the fittest. Don't be to sad, she was doing what was natural. I understand how you feel though.

i don't think dogs eat their puppies, she was probably sniffing him and hurt him by mistake.

Sometimes dogs will eat their puppies when they are mal-nourished, or sometimes when they "sense" the puppy will not survive.

Are you sure she ate him? Maybe he just ran away and got lost? :(
