I've heard several reasons why and I'm not sure which is the right answer. When a dog eats poop after having an accident inside the house, they eat it to "keep the den clean". Both my dogs did this during potty training but only when they went in the house. They typically won't poop where they sleep/eat so they get rid of the poop by eating it if it's too close to "home". They also might not be getting enough nutrients in their own food which would lead them to eat other dogs' poop, to ingest more of what their bodies need. Sometimes they smell something appealing in another dogs' poop.

It's just a weird thing some dogs do. There's stuff you can buy to put in their food to make it taste awful.

My mother and father in law had the same problem with their dog. She would eat cat do, and they never understood why she would be eating it. Then I looked it up on the internet and seen something about it and there is no specific answer as to why dogs eat do. I think they do it because they are bored and are curious what it is and why it smells so badly? maybe it is because some dogs are weird.

If you feed them a better quality dog food, they poop less bc they are getting more of the nutrients they need, thus making less waste and not have to look for nutrients in poop. Invest in a higher quality food.
