It's there way of showing u love. For example, my cat Cornelius likes to play "attack", which is when he attacks my hand, he scratches and bites, sometimes makes me bleed. But right after to show that he is only playing and still loves me he licks my wounds. He is absolutely adorable. I know he isn't a dog , but he is still a domesticated pet, like a dog. I believe that is why pets lick you.
