Why do dogs pee on poop left by other dogs2007-11-25 2:55:21

My dog is neutered so why do they have to pee on another dogs poop? Or pee on where another dog just peed?

Answers:

there way of saying "i was here" there just marking where they have been so all the other dogs know..smile...it's OK.it's just a dog kind of thing...

its all about scenting its like leaving their calling card a dog can tell another dogs age sex and health from smelling it so they cover it to mask and give of their own scent.it a dominance thing too
Good question with a very simple answer. They are marking over another dog's mark. Territorial behavior and almost all dogs do it and gender does not matter.
I think they do it to cover up the scent of the old dog's poop or pee. They want to mark their territory, like wolves do.
Even if they are neutered, they still want to mark their territory.
It's a calling card to let other dogs know that they were there.
when another dog poops or pees it is markig its territory but another dog if it is brave enough can go over to where that dog pooped or peed and poop or pee over it so that the territory now belongs to the dog who last soiled on it. And the process repeats many times.
they are marking their territory. If the other dog pees they are having like a war over territory.
