Why do dogs run after cars Why do they get confused when you stop2007-11-25 2:55:22Answers:
I was told that, not only is it a "prey drive", but it also has to do with the sound a car's engine makes. It drives the dog crazy... imagine a tough-sound motor... it might seem to a dog that there's this HUGE, aggressive beast rolling down the street.
The dog chases the car, but when the car stops, it just stops. No challenge. No more growling. No teeth bared.
To the dog, the "beast" is behaving strangely.
Maybe that sounds really imaginative to you, but someone once explained it to me that way, and from a dog's perspective, I definitely can see why dogs want to chase cars.
Prey drive.. if it moves, chase it.. You stop and there is nothing to chase.. Keep it alive and they'll keep chasing..
If it runs, it's prey. Prey doesn't usually stop when you chase it. If a dog chases you, don't run. Stand still and tall, don't look at it, keep your arms by your sides and yell "BAH" . If it still attacks you, that's one mean dog.
