Why do dogs sometimes eat grass2007-11-25 2:55:23

My dog somtimes eats grass, and then a little later he throws up. Anyone know why?

Answers:

dogs get upset tummies just like humans do but they can't take human medicines like tums and it's not such a big deal that they need to go to the vet (the vet couldn't do anything for them anyway)but eating grass is a natural way of self medicating

if they only eat alittle grass then that means that their tummy only hurts alittle and they are using the grass as a means to line the inside of their tummy so that they feel better; however if their tummy hurts alot then they will eat so much grass their body will reject it and they will throw up the toxins that are upsetting their tummy

so you see natural way of self medicating

I wouldn't be worried just make sure that the grass he eats is free of pesticides and chemicals (they sell cat/dog grass at most pet stores like petco and petsmart)

when he does this I would let him rest if he wants, (would you want to play if your tummy hurt?) an to make sure that he didn't get tummy aches I would feed him gentle digestion dog food or regular dog food and healthy treats only but no table scraps and no unhealthy treats...their tummies tend to be very sensitive

well i went to the vet and they said when dogs eat grass that means their stomach hurt and the grass has vitamins in it so its helping them.

My dogs do the same thing. My boyfriend told me it was because they were trying to disintoxicate their intestine.
