Why do people buy puppies and then when they grow up, get sick of them and dump them off at pounds2007-11-25 2:55:54

Growling, chewing, digging, biting, etc. is all things that people think are adorable, when a puppy does it. Not so wonderful when an adult dog does the same.

Because they didn't take the time to train them and pay attention to them. It's very sad, isn't it?

What I've heard alot. Is they arn't as cute! I think thats awful. Or they calm down, and arn't quite as playfull. Or other stupid stuff. A dog is a commitment,and always there for you. I'm mad as hell, I'm glad you asked that question. Those irresponsible people!

Because they are irresponsible and want a cute and fuzzy accessory instead of a long-term companion. It amazes me too. Would they give up their child when he/she is no longer wide-eyed and innocent? No. I treat my puppy like my baby and it just amazes me that people can just throw away their dog like trash.

a lot of people do it to make their child happy, and expect the child to take care of the puppy... but then they realize their expectations were too much. And these people in general are very very selfish.

OK -- so I fell for the child who begged for TEN years for a dog but lost interest within a week or so after getting one. I kept the dog of course but he became MY dog not hers.

I think that there are probably a lot of parents who aren't interested in the dog so they end up giving it away. Fortunately, I waited to get the dog for her until I was in a situation where I had more time for the dog.

Because they are thoughtless, cruel and ignorant people. I volunteer at a Animal Rescue Center and you should see some of the animals that we receive. When some of these people move, they just leave their pets. Others will dump them on the roadside. Right now I am caring for a 8 week old kitten that someone doused with lighter fluid. People think puppies are so cute, but they grow up and need to be walked, fed, and cared for. Some people couldn't be bothered and either get rid of them or abuse them.

Because puppies are SOOO CUTE and then they grow up and they weren't given proper training so they have behavioral problems so the irresponsible owners don't want them any more and give them up.

If they even make it to the pound! These are the same people who take there pet up into the wild lands and "set it free".

Sadly, people buy/obtain puppies for stupid reasons in the first place. They're often an impulse buy by an uninformed person . . . it's Sarah's birthday, and she would LOVE a cute little Dalmation just like the movie, (not realizing that Dalmations are very high energy and require a lot of work) . . . or it's a Paris Hilton wannabe who thinks it would be "hot" to have a Dalmation in her pocketbook . . . or it's a tough guy who thinks that owning a Pit Bull will make him look tougher or be an "inexpensive alarm system."

And THEN they find out that those adorable little puppies take time, energy, patience, discipline, training, money, and a lot of things they ignorantly weren't expecting when they took on the huge responsibility. It's shameful, really.

For those of you considering getting a dog: Please think twice. Do your homework. Only adopt a dog into your family when you're truly ready to make and fulfill a HUGE committment.
