All my fosters are crated at night, I can't trust them in an unfamiliar house, and there is no way of knowing what they have been subjected to before they arrived, they might be chewers or tear the house to pieces, or start a fight with the others. They are certainly far better off than being in a small cage in a shelter.
Crate training is not just an alternative for people who can't be bothered to teach their dogs properly.
All my dogs are crate trained even though I don't crate them when I go out or at night, because they are house broken, non destructive and well-behaved. I believe in crate training because it is the safest way for them to travel in the car and there are times when a dog will need crate rest, (if they are sick or injured), so they should learn to tolerate a crate happily.
it is for the dogs safety so that the dog does not get bored and chew through electric cords and such etc!..;. Even a properly trained dog will misbehave if left alone long enough . and you want them to sleep in the crate at night.
