My friend's are yorkie breeders and she doesnt even know why they would cut off the dog's tail...
Answers:Many Yorkie breeders (the responsible ones, believe it or not...) cut the dogs tail in order to be able to show in conformation, proving their dog is a suitable breeding candidate. The AKC requires this as part of their breed standard.
If your dog is a pet, you can ask the breeder not to dock the dogs tail, but with a long haired dog, it is a pain in the *** to brush out, and painful for the dog to be brushed.
Waaaaay back at the beginning of the breed, Yorkies were used as hunting terriers and rat dogs. Back then, they cropped all terrier's tails to prevent injury, as the vermin the dogs were responsible for killing were often vicious and would go for the tail if the dog had to retreat.
Nowadays, the dogs' tails are cropped purely for cosmetic reasons.
