Why do people cut off rottweilers tails
is it necessary?i dont understand the point of it
they do look more nice with out it but still!!!!
Answers:Hello..I agree it's cruel to cut the tails..it's done for dog shows & people's pleasure, not the dogs...same for Ear Cropping ~ if you want standing ears, buy a dog that has them naturally like sherphers, chihuahua's... hate that too..Take Care :)
not is not they are cute anyway
It's called docking, and they do it for lots of breeds.
Dogs with thick heavy tails can injure them rough housing or hunting, that's usually why they dock them to prevent painful injuries down the line.
Edit to add: Some people still have WORKING dogs, not all dogs are companions. Some dogs have jobs - and some are responsible for their original breed purpose - docking a tail can actually be BETTER for those dogs.
Because they are cruel
this practice is illegal in many countries. dont know why it isnt here. The tail is an extention of the spine. It helps with balance also. Ignorance is your answer.
Their tails are strong - and hurt when you are in the way of wagging tails. Some one just told me that is why they were cut in the first place. Now it is just standard with the breed.
In the past serious hunters cut off some dogs tails because the wagging tail would scare the game away. Now days people cut off the dogs tail because the people are stupid.
It looks much cuter that way. And it isnt as horrible and you think. My boyfriend's pit bull had puppies and they just tied rubber bands around the tails when they were a couple weeks old that way it would just fall off and no cutting involved.
Originally it was to protect them. Rott's and other breeds had their tails and ears docked so they could be grabbed by people or bit by animals. Now its an appearance thing.
Originally this was done to prevent injury to the tail of many working breeds. Most Kennel clubs still require a Rotties tail to be docked to be shown and most litters are docked very young to meet the "breed standard". I'm sure some breeders still dock them to prevent injury, but it is primarily for show and to fit the mental image most people have of a Rottweiler. Much of europe has outlawed this "cosmetic" surgery (as well as cropping a dogs ears and declawing cats) and many cities in the US are urging for the same.
We once adopted an american boxer with a very long curly tail. About a year after we had her, she was playing and knocked her tail into a table, causing damage so extreme the tail had to be removed. Maybe that's why this is done, maybe these dogs that have it done need it done to prevent future injuries and health problems?
They do that to lots of breeds even cocker spaniels. All dogs with stumpy tails had them docked. Look at Dobermans and you'll also realise many have had their ears cropped too.
People think it makes the breed look nicer but I think it is cruel.
And tying their tails with rubberbands until they drop off is a more painful and cruel process than having them cut. How would you like a rubberband tied around your finger until in dropped off?
If you did something like this to a cat, the Animal Welfare people will bring you in for animal cruelty. But with dogs, it's an acceptable practice.
Man's best friend has had to make too many sacrifices to get that title..
