Why do people find it so normal and accepting to feed dogs/carnivores grain based foods2007-11-25 2:55:55

Would you feed a horse hamburger if a commercial company claimed it was balanced and the best thing you could do for him? Why is it so accepted to feed dogs innapropriately?

People have been brain-washed into believing that this bag contains everything their dog needs. To the person who said "they can survive on a completely meat diet or on a completely vegetable diet".I don't think so. Giving a dog an all meat diet would create incredible bone problems..how much calcium is in that diet? Same with veggies...how much calcium is in that diet? And how much protein? Protein is the precursor of essential amino acids, and these are found in meats primarily. Unless you feed bone with either of these, your dog is doomed to extreme ill health. I feed raw.60% Raw Meaty Bones, with the rest different meats....for different vitamins, minerals, etc. If anyone wants to feed table scraps, then give the dog a bone as well. In the "old" days, our grand-parents (and parents, depending on how old we are! <g>) fed scraps.but always with a bone. These dogs were healthy. Perhaps the best thing that has happened in a long time is the food scare that is going on just now....perhaps people will realise that they are capable of feeding their own dog real foods.

Because they are apt to believe the high $$ commercials and not do the research for themselves. Until recently I don't think John Q. Shopper ever read the ingredient panel on the side of a bag of dog food.
