Why does dog stool smell worse then before2007-11-25 2:55:31

My dogs stool smell has a strong oder to it. Not a normal oder, like a strong musky smell. He has also started going to the bathroom in random places. He usually goes in one spot.The oder of his stool is so strong you cant even inhale when you come a little close. We previously went out of town and when we came back found that he was stolen we reported to police and a few days found him. He did not eat for me for a few days and was lazy. He is now eating for me and gets up when I come outside. One of his stools did have a sign of red in it . Did look like some blood but hasnt since. It just stinks bad. WHy could that be ?

Answers:

Take him to the vet for an exam.

Now, having said that, as bad as this may sound, it may be his anal (scent) glands are the problem.

We just recently had a similar problem with our dog. He started scooting across the carpet, cement, grass...where ever he could drop his rear to. Took him to the vet, explained what was going on, turns out his anal glands were a bit clogged.

The vet expressed the glands and it's better.

Note: It's not a pleasant experience

Take a sample of his stinky stool to the vet and have him checked. The stench is a strong indication that he's very sick and he needs to be seen by the vet.

He could have worms.

He could have been fed drugs and have residual harmful effects.

There are a number of things but you should have gotten a sample of the bloody stool and gone to the vet then.
