Why does my 4 yr old lab still do this
Why does my 4 yr. old lab still rip to shreads newspaers, shoes, cardboard boxes, phone books, reading books, papers, checks, dollar bills, trash bags, pencils, photos, and anything else he can get his dirty little yellow paws on? Aren't they supposed to grow out of that by age 3?
Answers:That is what they say, but some take longer and Labs love to chew. My 2 year ols still does if he does not have something he can chew on. So I always make sure he has tendons, bones, bully sticks, or chew toys. If he has those then he will only chew if he is angry (he gets angry when he has not had enough attention or exercise). My boyfriends 7 year old Lab was the same way until she was 5.
Not if you haven't taught him Not to do it. They will do what they are allowed.
Not if they're bored or frustrated. Either because he's not getting enough exercise or mental stimulation through some kind of obedience training. Labs are usually very high energy dogs - they need a lot of exercise as well as something to occupy their minds.
They never grow out of some thing you allow them to do.
You need to catch them in the act and correct the behavior consistently
because you havent trained him properly.
if he had plenty of toys, went for enough walks - basically had enough physical and mental stimulation along with some proper training, he would not be doing it.
