Why does my dog eat my couch and how do I stop it2007-11-25 2:56:04

My dog eats the linning of my couch. She doesn't eat the cushions but she eats the stuff on top of the springs! We've tried everyuthing we can think of to get her to stop. I ran out of ideas...anybody have any?

I have had the same problem. One of our dogs tried to eat the dust cover off the bottom of the couch. I finally removed it from the couch. I wonder what he is eating now? Usually only the puppies do this.

There are products made to deter animals from furniture (they smell bad to the animal or something). You could try spraying this on and in the couch.

Crate your dog when you can't supervise her. Also, don't let her on the couch.

spray bottle add lemon juice spray the area that is getting chewed. This is a proven method.

If you catch the dog chewing spray below the nose.

This is like the bitter apple method but works!

Try some more chew toys - I have heard of products to help solve problems but I think in time with the right training it will go good. Oh dont leave it in room while your not there. Good luck

I would pick her up off the couch and give her a toy, or throw it or distract her but first say no!!! no!! no!!! thats not a toy get a toy !!! or point her to her food bowl !!! thats what we do for my dog.

If he just wants to chew, give him butcher bones or deer antlers to satisfy him.
