Why does my dog enjoy eating on the floor and not from the bowl2007-11-25 2:56:05

Seriously she will not touch if it is in the bowl she will ignore it unless almost all day has gone by and she will eat it. This morning my son spilled some and she ate it. I picked it up off the floor and she wouldn't go near her bowl. So I did a little test and spilled all of the food from the bowl and she it all.

in her past life she was a begger. thats why. seriously. jk. you guys trainned her to eat off the floor thats why.

Wash the bowl. Maybe it smells or has a bad taste.

my dog does that i think he doesnt like it when his food gets compacted in the edges cos he will use bowl just to eat the loose stuff off the top and then waits to have it tipped on floor by me.he has me well trained lol

Sounds like she is afraid of her bowl. Is it metal? My dog wouldn't go near his metal bowl, because his tags hit it and made noise it scared him. Try using a paper plate and see if she will eat off of that, if she will go out and get a shallow plastic food bowl. It just might solve the problem. Good luck.

Maybe the bowl is too small around. Try a wider bowl.

Hmmmmm... What kind of bowl are you using?? If its plastic, i suggest changing to stainless steel or ceramic. Many dogs are allergic to plastic bowls. Other than that, I know what you are talking about... i have a chihuahua that will sit there and bark at the bowl and stare at it because he wont eat out of certain ones... but as soon as i take a handful and put it on the floor, he eats it. He seems to get scared of the sound that the food makes in the steel bowl. Also he is scared of the bowl sliding on the floor.
