Why does my dog get acne2007-11-25 2:56:05

I have a 4 year old yellow lab and she gets acne on the bottom of her upper lip and on the bottom of her chin. I use stainless steel bowls which get cleaned regularly. Is there any treatment for this? An antibiotic or something?

Answers:

Feed her from ceramic or stainless steel bowls, and wash in hot soapy water between (every) feedings.

You can use human OTC acne wipes containing Benzoyl Peroxide, for her chin.

If you have a cat..it could be getting into the litter..thats what happens to mine..

to clean it..and help it go away, I use a little bit of listerine on a paper towel and clean the acne that way...

they hate it..but it works

Wash her face atleast once a day with an antibacterial soap like Dial. You can also apply an antibiotic cream to her face after washing it. She should be all cleared up in a couple weeks.

Maybe from the oils in the food sitting on the surface of her skin, it may help to wash her chin after each meal

acne,i think you should ask your vet if its really acne because how would a dog get acne when they dint sweat ?

You might call the vet and make sure it's not a skin disorder. My Boston Terrier had what looked like pimples that were found around the mouth, belly, between the toes ect. I tried treating her condition at home with standard antibiotics found at the pet store.

It turns out the Vet put her on some medicine that completely took care of the problem. The sores never came back.

Besides I think it's best to play it safe and have your pet looked over by a Vet.
