Why does my dog have one season before i can sprayed her2007-11-25 2:56:06

my vet wont sprayed my dog untill she has one season but i know someone who had her sprayed before she came into season

Go to another vet , your vet is part of the old school of training(probably quite a bit older) , even one heat cycle increases the risk of mammary cancer by about 12%, if he has not bothered to keep up with new vet studies, he would be the last person I would want caring for my animals

I used to work at a vet's office and they always wanted to do the spaying around 9 months. So that is not normally once your dog will have had one season. They did this because the dogs were old enough to handle the operation but young enough to bounce back from it quickly! I don't think it's a big deal either way so if you want to get it done now and know a place that will do it, go for it!

Go to another vet. Most vets will tell you to spay your dog BEFORE she is in season. You have a very bad vet right now.

To begin with, it's "spay", not "spray", and there's no reason your dog can't be spayed before her first heat. Dogs can be spayed at 6 months. Find a different vet - the one you have is hopelessly out of date.

My dog was spayed without ever going into season. Never had a problem. Find another vet.

in the past no vet would spay a dog until she had her first season the thinking now is it can be done before the first season all you can do if you want it done now is to find a new vet

Is she in heat now? Some veterinarians don't like to spay an animal if its currently in heat because it's a more involved, costly procedure. If she's not, I see no reason why you should wait to have her spayed.
