Why does my dog lick concrete2007-11-25 2:56:08

I forgot the word lick in my my last question, lol. He licks the porch when I let him out recently, he never licked it before this last month.

Probably the same reason my cat licks plastic bags, boredom. Animals are weird.

To cool down his body . The concrete is cold. Dogs use their tongue not sweat to cool down their body.

He probleby peed there a short time aog, because ALL dogs are known to do this.

My dogs do too. When I asked why, I was told that they do that because there is some kind of salt or something on it so they lick it to get some of it. I may be wrong but a vet told me that so I doubt it.

They lick the concrete because its cool. Its like us licking a frozen treat. Get the dog a bowl and fill it up with ice cubes and water to help him cool down.
