Lots of dogs lick floors, walls, concrete, metal, etc. I do not know of a consistent link to any particular problem that underlies this behavior. There are a lot of things that might cause these problems in a particular patient, though. Hyperadrenocorticism (Cushing's disease), hypoadrenocorticism, liver failure, obsessive-compulsive disorders, seizures, hydrocephalus and other neurologic disease and probably a number of other conditions have occasionally been linked with this behavior.
Dogs that have been stressed or that are excessively bored seem to develop obsessive disorders at times.
i am having the same problems with my dog. he licks the carpet around where we feed him. is that where your dog licks? if it is she might just be looking for food scraps. but with my dog its getting where he will lick the entire carpeted room where we feed him. i tell him to stop but hes doing it more and more. i think he might have a compulsive licking disorder or something like that. i don't know what to tell you but at least now i know my dog isn't the only weird dog in the world.
