Why does my dog sometimes chew fabrics

Why does my dog sometimes chew fabrics2007-11-25 2:56:13

trousers legs, dressing gown belt ends (fleece), sheet corners. Its not a continual thing, just occassionally and i never catch him doing it. He doesn't appear to have tooth ache.

Answers:

Get him some toys to play with. And spray some "Bitter Apple" to keep him from chewing on other stuff. It doesn't stain or cause an odor. It just takes bad.

he might want toys. give him a rope and play tugawar with him
Is he chewing them or eating them? If just chewing, make sure that these things are inaccessible to him (put them away, put him in a crate when he can't be supervised) and that he has plenty of toys to play with.

If he is eating them, he has a condition called pica. Sometimes a nutritional deficiency or disease of the pancreas will cause this, so you should have him examined by a vet. Otherwise it is probably an OCD, in which case drugs may be required.

my dog dose that too its just what they do just take the dog to the vet and give it those bones that take care of your teeth and dont let it eat fabric
I'm not sure why he's chewing on this stuff. It may be because of a nervous habit. My dog will sometimes lick pants, sheets, and fabrics sometimes out of nervousness and I have to stop him. I would be very careful however if he's chewing the fabrics because he can ingest something and it can get caught in his stomach or intestine which can cause major problems. I would take him to the vet get a blood test done to make sure he doesn't have any deficiencies. If the blood test comes out ok and he's got a clean bill of health I would seriously consider cosultanting a behavioralist on this.
Sometimes our dogs did that when they are mad at the particular person. Buy him a soft toy thats just for him, he may just be bored. The toy will give him something to chew on.
give him a bone to play with
my dog chewed curtains etc i sprayed fabric with deodrant(non marking) dogs hate the bitter taste and learn to leave them alone.tip supplied by dog trainer, perfectly harmless.
he could be teething.dogs go through this phase as pups and again when they are about a year old.

you should get him plenty of chew toys for him to have instead.they get bored with just one so get a few and give him a different one each day.

if he seems to chew the same few items all the time u can get "anti-chew spray" at any pet shop.it doesn't stain or damage any fabrics,it just tastes rotten and keeps the teeth marks and holes away!!!
