It has nothing to do with the smell, it is most likely the dog looking for the source of the perplexing sound. Sound made by flatulence is usually low pitched, and as anyone with a dog whistle knows, dogs react best to high pitches and sometimes don't perceive especially low ones. Your dog is simply confused by the smell and probable shockwave following your methane expulsion without an accompanying sound.
