Why does my female maltese puppy hump like a male2007-11-25 2:56:15

my vet can't give me a satisfactory answer.

She wants to be the boss. It's dominant behaviour

It's nothing unusual, lots of b1tches do it, it's nothing to do with sex, just showing she thinks she's boss.

Is she coming into heat? Is there another female dog around that is in heat or possibly coming into heat? Usually female dogs hump like male dogs because of those factors.

^^ hes right! but what is she humping? lol humping is not just a male dog behavior and you can stop it read training books or see a trainer i just yell at my male dog and he stops

Perhaps its a dominant behavior, more than likely though, it is simply her going into heat.

I was wondering the same thing. I have a 9 month old Jack Russell Terrier who does the same thing.. and she still hasnt gone into heat.. she's been doing it for about 4 or 5 months now. It's a little weird, because she'll only do it to my boyfriend or I.. but never strangers or other animals.

Kind of leads me to believe she's trying to be dominant.

my maltese who is now 4 yrs old , now she knows she is the boss,has stopped, but i got a cat that she dominates, but the cat seems too love it /her as she follows her everywhere.

I had my male Jack Russell do this at 7 weeks when we got him, i contacted the vets as i have kids and was concerned about him doing this( to a favourite blanket) I was told it is normal puppy behaviour(just play) i have also got mother &daughter and they do this too, the male is now 3 so is is mate their daughter is 1,
