Why does my poodle cough repeatedly like he is having an asthma attack , more fruequently during spr2007-11-25 2:56:42

WHAT CAN I DO TO HELP HIM ?

In the spring the pollen in the air is very very high! My cat has an allergy to pollen and she does the same thing if she gets outside, especially in the spring time.You may have to take him to the vet, depending on the severity of his cough...He may need medication if it's bad enough..My cat's allergy isn't bad enough to have to have medication for it, she just coughs and sneezes...But I had her checked out by the vet before I was aware of this...Hope he feels better!

My dachshund does this too, I don't know what causes it. He just starts wheezing. My husband helps him out when he is having an attack by gently pressing on the underside of his ribcage and something about it calms it down and helps him to relax it away.

Highly possible that your dog has allergies. My dad's dog does this too. You can take him to the vet to get checked out to be sure.

Dogs can have allergies like people and I have a couple of Fiest that do this but I honestly think with them it's hairballs like a cat gets because they are a brother and sister and they love each other and my female is ALWAYS grooming my male or cleaning them and we also have a cat outside and these two Fiest give it a run for it's life occasionally and I notice after they have played with my cat they cough more so your doggie may have a kitty cat friend you may not be aware of or if he/she plays with furry toys that will do the same thing,but unless your dog starts to lose it's balance,or falling down during one of these episodes which could indicate seizures in that case I would take your dog to see the vet.Well I hope I helped you and your baby out .Poodles are soooo cutie.Good Luck and GOD Bless

Take the poor thing to vet and find out. Coughing can be heart problems, heartworms, and probably a lot of other things. Hopefully it is just allergies, which pets can have. They also can be treated. Take him to the vet.

Allergies - Possibly grass or tree pollen. Could be mold (outside). Talk to your vet. They can do amazing things for animals now (like allergy test). If this is something new, could be more than an allergy - check you pooch with your vet.
