Why does my pug try diligently to rub side of his face on the carpet
I have noticed the last couple of days my 7mos old pug is wiping his face into the carpet, he then runs in circles and then starts the inward-hiccups. I have never seen anything like this before. His nose is clear, his eyes are fine, I've checked him over thoroughly and don't see anything. Why is he doing this?
Answers:Two main reasons. The first of which is because their teeth are causing them pain, not likely with a 7 month old. Second is because they like it! Feels good and not necessarily because anything itches. This combined with the running in circles indicates to me the dog is having fun, is excited. The "inward-hiccups" is actually "collapsed trachea syndrome" it can be serious but that is very rare. Many small breeds have this genetic defect where the trachea collapses inward and restricts the air flow into the lungs. It usually doesn't last long and if you get the dog to relax it resolves itself much faster.
Sounds like his face itches. Sometimes my dachshunds do this when they have a bit of food on their face or stuck along the side of their mouth as well. Have you checked all his little folds? Any fleas or bites on him?
i think hes itchy give him somthing to make sure he doesnt a=have fleas or ticks if that doesnt work take him to the vet.i just think its fleas or ticks.
My dog does this too. I think they are excited and playing.
Sometimes they like to wipe their scent on things. It might also be an itch. You might want to give your vet a jingle tomorrow though, never a dumb question when it comes to your pup.
Hello..just kinda nutty, but nothin bad, they also have scent glands along the sides of their mouths so they rub to rub the scent on things & fleas will go for moisture areas, could be drink & run fleas bugging him..it's impossible to think you can get rid of every flea, especially in warm weather, tho you can control them, you can't get rid of them all... beings you've checked him over for any problems or bad teeth, etc..am guessing this is why ..Take Care :)
Mostly, all dogs do this.
