Why doesnt my chi listen to me the first time2007-11-25 2:56:46

She will be sitting on my lap and start chewing on a button or a draw string and I鈥檒l take it out of her mouth and tell her NO! no chewing! And she stops, but only for a min. then 2 mins later she is slowing trying to do it again. So then I scream at her and say 鈥淣O BITING!鈥?and they backs off 鈥︹€ut then to only give it another try 10 mins later at that point I tap her on the nose and tell her stop it now or else your gonna lose a tooth. So anyway, my point in asking this is 鈥hy doesn鈥檛 she listen to me the first time I say this?

Probably because when she 'chews', and you make her

stop, you are talking to her, paying attention to her!! She

seems bored.Even getting into trouble is a good option when you want someone to 'pay attention'!! Play with her,...then she will be 'good' tired, and will doze on your lap without any

chewing!

As all young animals (and humans do) you limits are being pushed to see what they can get away with. No is really and inefective way of dealing with the problem...and yelling and taping the nose dont really do it either. Your confusing your puppy which is why shes not responding the way you want.

The nest time the puppy is doing some thing you disaprove of and want her to stop. CALMLY this is the key say "No" or "shhh" and take two fingers and quickly but firmly jab her in the neck (this is a sensitive area and will get her attention) You not doing this to hurt her just to get her attention so she understand you mean business. Be consistant do it the same way EVRY time and you will start to se results.
