Why doesnt my siberian husky want to eat unless his food is fed to him by hand2007-11-25 2:56:47

i thought i could be because hes the runt and all the other dogs would attack him when he was a baby if he tried to eat before them. he was always left with the scraps=( but ive had him for 3 months so its weird that hes not over it.(if that is the reason)

Actually, he's probably just gotten used to you feeding him by hand... and once you stopped, he didn't eat cause he was waiting for you.

I know this might sound weird, but just stop feeding him by hand.. if he doesn't eat thats okay... after a couple of days, he'll eat on his own because he's hungry

It's because you continue to feed it to him by hand.

Put it in the bowl and stop feeding it to him by hand. He's not gonna starve himself.

if there are no other dogs around anymore you should put the food down on the floor and he WILL eat when he gets hungry enough.you cant go on like this

Because he's got you exactly where he wants you: waiting on him hand and foot.

A dog will not starve itself so you need to break his pattern of expecting you to feed him by hand. From now on, put his food down and don't fuss over him. If he hasn't shown any interest in the food in 15 minutes take the food away. Do this each time you try to feed him. Eventually he'll get the message that he has to eat what's put in front of him or he gets nothing.
