Why dose my dog keep barking2007-11-25 2:56:17

I have a male shih tzu and this stay dog came to my house the other night that my dog kept barking at. Every since then my dog keeps barking at nothing and he really barkes at night time. Why dose he keep barking?

Answers:

If the stray dog is a female it may be in heat and that sends a huge message to boy dogs (if ya no what i mean), if it was a male he probably marked that spot as his territory and your dog knows that this is his territory. The dog probably comes back at night but i would suggest you take your dog out on a leash and let him mark that spot. He also feels protective of you because you are the pack leader. It is also very high that the other dog is still around and he probably smells the dog! hope i could help!

because the "STAY" dog (i assume you meant stray) very well may be still in the area,, dogs have keen senses of smell,,, trust your dog,, read your dog.. oh ,, and it is DOES not dose.

dogs are territorial. if your dog smells the other dog he/she might think this intruder is still around. is your dog able to walk around the yard to "mark" it's territory? If not you might let him/her run around and pee everywhere in your yard to help them to feel better. good luck

Is your dog inside at night? If not, he should be. He is barking at every little noise he hears, trying to protect his territory. If he is in the house, consider crate training him. He'll feel secure in his den and not feel so inclined to bark at everything.
