Why is my 1yr old golden retriever acting sick2007-11-25 2:56:21

She has diahrea, vomiting and has broken out in hives. At night she chews on her paw so hard and loud it wakes us up from a sound sleep. We just moved to North Carolina. She still eats well. She has checked negative for food poisoning by the vet and gave her an IV for dehydration.

Answers:

The poor Golden girl!!! Bring her back to the vets and have them check her for allergies. Golden's are famous for them.He can give her something for the itching and a shot to help relieve her from the irritations.

Also check her food too. I may be causing her to have the allergies. I feed my Golden's Canidae and to be honest no allergy problems.

I hope you can get her some relief soon.

The chewing on the paws sounds like allergies to something. My dog does that. He has a bad case of allergies. The diahrea and vomiting also could be something maybe cause you just recently moved to a new location. Maybe from the water in a new place. I think it's mainly from a change in her environment. But if it keeps up I would take her back to the vet and tell them that you just moved and this started.

Did he check for ticks? They tend to have some sort of disease...I hear..I don't have a tick problem here.

Sounds like allergies if she's chewing her paw and has hives. As for vomiting and diarrhea, that can be caused by so many different things, but it generally goes away, and as long as they don't get dehydrated, which you have taken care of, it's not a big deal unless it goes on for awhile.

I'd watch her and see. It might just take awhile for her to get used to the new surroundings where you are.

try some benidrill (sp?). If she gets shots at the vet they will be some sort of cortisone, but those can be harmful to other parts.
