Why is my JRT so hard to train
he has so much energy he wont stop pulling on his leash when outside even though he has learnt heel. he wont stop umping people no matter how hard i train him. what else can i do?
Answers:The breed is a high energy dog. If your walking him on just a collar using a halter or gentle leader can help the pulling. They dont hurt him they just give a little firmer hold on him so hes pulling on himself rather than your arms. For the other problem is he neutered? If not you might want to try that. It usually calms down the need for dominance in dogs. If he already is get a water bottle and spray him in the face everytime he does it. I dont want to sound mean but make sure its not the mist but the straight spray. These worked for my aunts pitbull, so I hope you can find them usefull.
They are stubborn! They are also smart enough to outwit you so you need to be on your toes. They do what they want, when they want, so the best way to train these guys is with food motivation and positive reinforcement or they will ignore you. You may want to get a pro involved as this is a very hard breed to train due to the stubborn disposition.
They were bred to hunt vermin on their own so they had to be able to think for themselves, so what resulted was a breed that acts on their own wishes and not necessarily their master's wishes.
He's a Terrier. Getting him neutered might help with the other.
