Why is my beagle doing this2007-11-25 2:56:22

Okay so I have the most wonderful beagle ever he is the sweetest dog ever, but theres one thing I don't understand about him he sleeps in my room and when we go to sleep sometimes I let him on my bed only sometimes cause he sheds like crazy and it gets every where, anyways he will never sleep on the end of the bed no matter what its like he is scared or something its not so close to the edge to where he will fall off or anything he has plenty of room but he always climbs slowly up to where he is next to me and he will only stay on my bed if he is next to me with his back against me.

Is this normal, Why is he doing this?

Dogs are social, pack animals. He wants to be with you as you are part of his "pack". He wants to sleep close to you because he considered you higher up in the pack and the lower pack members always want to get as close to their pack leader as possible - in the dog world, it elevates their own position within the pack. Translation: HE LOVES YOU!

This is normal. You're his fearless pack leader.

Right now he is shedding his winter coat. Brushing him a lot will help with the hair.

look at a litter of pups,, they always sleep together.. pack thing... plus, you provide warmth and comfort

You dont even have to be the pack leader, but you are part of THE pack. Dogs love to cuddle with each other and theres nothing more reassuring than to have your rear against another pack member to know that "someones got your back"!!! It is a security thing. If you had another dog of the same breed or a second dog that was raised with your dog they would be sleeping touching each other. But since there is not you are the substitute. :)
