Why is my dog acting weird Anyone ever have this happen2007-11-25 2:56:23

My baby is a 2 year old Lhasa Apso. My fiance and I bought her together a year and a half ago. She has always lived with me, but she follows my fiance around and usually only sits on his lap when he's over. We would joke that she is falling in love with him b/c of how she acts. For the past week she has been by my said non-stop. My fiance came up to rub my shoulders and she started barking and snapped at him over and over. Only when he touched me. She never slept on my bed with me, but this last week she wont let me sleep alone. I have no idea whats going on! anyone have an idea?

i would hate to think that she is starting to not like him, lol.

there is a lot to explain:

dogs live in packs and there are hierarchies.this is like the pecking order.this dog thinks that he/she is above ur fiance and you are the leader.you need to teach ur dog to know that your fiance in above her.

this is how you can do that:

everytime you are with ur fiance, the dog cant get any attention from you.you cant let the dog get in the way.if the dog doesnt listen, put it outside and bring it in after a half an hour or so.and ur fiance is to get most of the attention.if the dog is on ur lap and snaps at ur fiance, then put the dog away from you so it knows that its been bad.good luck!

she is jealous. I have a Great Dane that got VERY jealous of my boyfriend when he first started coming over. Don't give into her behavior and stop whatever your doing with him (cuddling, hugging, kissing etc..) just keep doing it. Don't "comfort" her either while she's showing dominance. Has he just moved in with u or something? I would correct her for the behavior and don't allow her to sleep in your bed (shows dominance) the leader should always sleep alone. Get a spray bottle and squirt her in the face when she barks at him for touching you. Crank down on that jealous behavior!
Dogs have a sixth sense about these things, and they can sniff out danger, tension, sadness..etc.. I hope not, but maybe she senses something bad is going to happen. That may be why she is on her gaurd...hence the sleeping in the bed with you. Maybe she has changed her mind about your fiance. Maybe there is something she is trying to warn you about? Whatever you do..pay attention to her. Be on your guard. If she is acting out of the norm, and suddenly defensive of you...you should take that into serious consideration. Dogs are smart at things like this!
Maybe she senses something wrong. That's usually what happens when a dog senses that somethings wrong. Or, that she's in that stage that she HAS to be protective of you.
any tension between you & your fiance? dogs can sense tension & she'd probably react by trying to protect you. there has to be some kind of change in the situation. are there any changes in your health or emotions? the dog can sense this as well & try to be comforting & protecting you as well
This could all be normal. Your fiance obviously had a strong bond with her at first, but now over time she has finally built a stronger bond with you. Just to let you know, there could be an underlying issue (and this isn't an insult to your fiance, but just a possibility since I don't know either of you), but has your fiance gotten rough with her or with you recently. Even jokingly, a dog can see aggression towards a primary care-giver and instantly become over-protective and of course if the aggression was directed at her, then she would want you by her side for "back-up" from the "attacker," even if it isn't intentional or serious to either of you. Remember, as smart as our dogs are, they sometimes can't understand human "play-time" and respond instinctively.
Something is different
