Why is my dog humping a teddybear2007-11-25 2:56:25

My dog is in her 2nd week of heat and is humping a teddybear does that mean she is ready to be mated?

The general rule of thumb is that the heat cycle lasts a period of three weeks. This is not an exact science however, and each dog/breed can be different. There is a saying: "A week going into heat, a week in heat, and a week going out of heat." Usually, the female is willing to accept a male during the middle week and this is the time in which she can become preganant. Once again, this is not always the case so if you do not wish for your dog to become preganant it is imperative that you keep a watchful eye on her for basically a month because she may be "willing" before and after what you think is the second week. As far as the Teddy Bear...I'd say she is demonstrating that she is ready and willing. I would recommend that you purchase a book on your dog's breed. This will give you much more specific and accurate info regarding all phases of your dog's health.

Just one thing i learned is maybe its because he or she feels like shes more dominant then the teddybear. Juts make sure she doesnt hump you cause that just shows that she is be dominant towards you which you do not wnat. Good Luck!
