Why is my dog pooping so much2007-11-25 2:56:25

lately my dog has been pooping 4 times a day mainly late at night

Have you changed the food recently? Or is your dog on any new medicines? When was the last time your pet was dewormed? Hope any of these help.

What are you feeding him and how much? The cheaper the food, the more fillers; therefore, the more poop. What goes in, must come out...

It's the food. You get out of the dog what you put in. If you drop a couple of peices of his food into a glass of water and leave it there for several hours you will see that it swells to more then double the oiginal size. Kibble is mostly all grains which dogs can not use so it has to be expelled from the body and by the time the dog drinks enough water to get the dried up bits of grain soft enough to move through the system it becomes a HUGE amount of crap. Feed your dog something higher in quality and give his digestive system the break it deserves.

This can be any number of things. It could be some sort of parasite or illness, or a phase, or it could just be how your dog is going to poop forever. I've known some completely healthy small breeds that poop twice as much in a day than a huge dog would... I would suggest that your first step be to check with your vet. He'll probably want to do a fecal exam, and maybe have a feel on your dogs tummy. If the vet finds anything weird, with these symptoms it's usually nothing major or expensive. Good luck!

1. Go to the vet to check for worms or other gastrointestinal problems.

2. Change food to one with less fillers. Or switch to wet dog food because what you see is what you get (won't further expand with water).

3. Don't use self feeders. Feed him a set amount on a set schedule. Best to feed after a walk (i.e. after a poop) once in the morning and then again after a walk once in the afternoon.

Depends on how much your feeding him and what kind of dog food. You feed the dog a low quality dog food he's going to poop alot versus a good quality dog food.
