Why is my dog suddenly peeing on my recliner

Why is my dog suddenly peeing on my recliner2007-11-25 2:56:26

I have a 2 year old male mutt that I have had since he was 4 months old. He housebroke in 2 weeks and never had an accident even when left alone for up to 16 hours. Suddenly, about a month ago, he starts lifting his leg and peeing on furniture, laundry baskets, walls, and anything else he can find when left alone for a minute. His favorite place to pee is on the front of my recliner (where I sit the most). He doesn't seem to go after the kids' or hubby's stuff, just mine. I know it isn't the cats (2) or the other dog because the pee is up too high for any of them to reach. We have had the other animals at least 6 months and he just started this. Hope this is enough info.

Why does he do this?

How can I get him to stop?

In my opinion, not only he's marking his territory, he is just insecure. He's telling the other animals this recliner (and the one who sits in it) is mine... don't come around here. And it's completely understandable. You had him since he was a pet. He was the only one to receive all your love and attention. You say you have other animals. They weren't there 7 months ago. Things have changed. Now other animals are getting some of his affection and love.

How to stop it. Just give him a lot of extra attention and make him fell secure. Let him know that you still love him.

he is marking his territory. is he netured if not this will help
lol, it must be disrespecting you for some reason
He marking his territory. Need to catch him in the act and scoll him, try taking him out side on walks to mark his territory.
It has been said many a times that dogs do things in rebellion, espcialy if they are singling someone out. My husband used to leave for long periods of time in the Navy and our dog would chew up EVERYTHING of his, but just his! I think they get frusterated and take it out on that person. Have you been working more now? Paying less attention to him? He could be stressed out... all you can do really is try to pay more attention and taking him out every two hours or less. Also, pet stores have this spray that you can spray on the areas he's peeing on that will take the scent out and make them not want to pee there. Sometimes once a dog gets his scent into something, no matter how many times you clean it, they will keep peeing in that area.
He is marking his territory because of the other animals.
