Why is my dog trying to tip her food dish over2007-11-25 2:56:27

This has happened twice now where my dog has tried to tip over her food dish. She just sticks her nose in the bowl and tips it! Does anyone know why she's doing this?

Answers:

thats an obvious one. if you have ever watched animal planet, you would know that that is a sign that they want attention.

she doesnt like her food
Aww silly. I bet she's just playing a game!
looking to see if there is food hiding under the bowl. my dog does this to her water bowl and then runs to the front door and rings these tibetin bells i have hanging on the doorknob for her, when her bowl is empty and she wants more.
natural foraging behaviour
maybe to get the rest of her food
Sometimes a dog is obeying his or her natural instincts and trying to turn over food like they do a carcess to get what is on the underside of it. Some dogs also do not like to eat out of bowls and so tip the food out.
My pets do this also. My oldest started it first, then the other three followed. I think she is just playing.
if you have other animals to she is trying to hide her food for later a natural instinct that's why dogs bury food to, my guess is you have a cat to or another dog but my money goes on a cat because my dogs do the same because the cat is always helping himself to their food
Most animals will tip over any food dish or items similar if they do not weigh enough. Try a heavier dish, or one that is set up to where the pet wouldn't be able to tip it or move it on their own.
